I agree that since there is not similar string of peptides in H4 and that the modified peptide blocks binding to both bands, that the lower band is very likely to be a proteolyzed product of the upper band. I think that this explanation should be included in the figure legend and then this antibody would pass.

that seems like a very reasonable suggestion (i.e. including the hypothesis about proteolysis in the validation document). I've attached to this email a new draft validation that contains wording about the hypothesis that the lower molecular weight bands are due to proteolysis. Please consider this as the replacement draft validation for this particular antibody.
